Pretty much, this post is just a rant about the representation of LGBT related stuff in media, and a few actually random suggestions on TV shows, movies, books, podcasts, and a few other things, that talk about LGBT topics, or have good representation! So, let's get into it! (I sound like a YouTuber...) We all probably know that LGBT representation in the media is... meh. It used to be much worse, but it's not diving as deep as it should. A lot of the time, you have people trying to be super inclusive in their TV shows, or things like that, and forgetting that LGBTQIA+ isn't just LGT(Lesbian, Gay, Trans). There's plenty of shows, to be listed later, that are LGBT inclusive, though they forget about many sexualities and genders, that need more representation. Now, I'm not saying that gay people, trans people, etc. aren't as important as other LGBT people.
I'm also not saying that trans and gay people have had their fair share of TV time, and now others need a turn. I'm saying that people have gotten better, with representing parts of the LGBT community, but not all of them. I'm saying that people need to try and represent the entire community, or else it almost feels like... extra discrimination? I really don't know what I'm saying here... Often, sexualities such as omnisexual, pansexual, abrosexual, and more are forgotten, or misrepresented. Asexual and aromantic are also forgotten about, portrayed in a really... incorrect, even offensive, way. Sometimes, even people inside the community forget about the variety in sexualities, and stuff. (I'd like to note, I actually forgot to have abrosexual/abroromantic in the Terminology page... I'm sorry for that... I will add it in soon, hopefully!) Lots of people say that TV is 'turning the kids gay', or that Gen Z is the 'gayest generation'. I mean, sure... Call Gen Z the 'gayest generation'. I don't mind... Gen Z isn't the gayest generation. It's just the generation that is most comfortable with being out, and proud. And the TV turning kids gay thing... I mean, really? TV shows may make your child realize that they are not hetero, but that doesn't mean it 'turned them gay'. So many LGBT people had, what we call, 'gay awakenings', from TV shows. Pretty much just realizing, 'Oh, I'm not straight...' Alright, that rant may seem short, but there's more! Here I am, to suggest some stuff to watch, read, or listen to, that has great LGBT representation, or is just gay! So, some good TV shows would be... The Dragon Prince (Netflix), The Legend Of Korra (Netflix), The Hollow (Netflix), Steven Universe (Hulu), and many more... Those are just the ones I could think of, off the top of my head. Alright, I got some more TV suggestions, so here we go! The Owl House (Disney+), Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts (Netflix), and... yeah! Another one... Queer Eye! On Netflix! And another that I remembered! No Good Nick! (Netflix) Oops! I forgot some... Here's a few animes! Yuri! On Ice (18+), Bannana Fish. I actually don't have any good movie suggestions, but if you have any, contact me, via the Contact page! Okay, I got some! Call Me By Your Name, Moonlight, Love Simon, and Happiest Season. Shoot... Again, I don't have any books... I literally had at least 5, but I forgot them... I need to start writing things down... Anyway, tell me your LGBT book suggestions! Ooh! Book suggestions, from viewers! Rick(Alex Gino), Red White And Royal Blue(Casey McQuiston), and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda(Becky Albertalli). Okay, I actually have stuff for this one. Podcasts. All the ones that I'm listing are available on Spotify, and more than likely other places, but I don't know off the top of my head! Here we go! The Bi Pie Podcast, Gender Reveal, History Is Gay, LGBTQ&A, and... Queerypasta - The LGBTQ+ Creepypasta Podcast... I'm sorry, I just searched LGBT in Spotify, and went to Podcasts, because I wanted one more to list...
I... I am now going to listen to that last one... Ooh! I have another! And That's Why We Drink is a paranormal and true crime podcast, and one of the hosts is "a big ole' gay". (Her words, not mine.) Alright, that's it for now! I really need to come up with a posting schedule... Maybe once a month? I dunno yet... Anyway, I'll see you soon! But wait, there's more! We may end up creating a Rising Journal podcast... It's not confirmed yet, but it'll more than likely be hosted by the host of The Bi Pie Podcast, and someone else... Who hasn't been decided upon yet...
If you wanna possibly host along with them, or guest star, or anything like that, please contact us, via our email address, on the Contact page! (Please email, don't comment or anything. You can also contact us on the Discord. That would we fine, as well.) Just a suggestion, but having a Discord account may be useful... For recording, that is... Okay, I'm done for real now! Tell me any more book, podcast, movie, TV show, etc. suggestions to add!
Bye! (Bi!)
